Additional calculation details

Gross pay is scaled in proportion to weekly working hours, then net pay is calculated separately for each scenario. The model assumes statutory insurance and 12 equal months; bonuses, one-off payments, private health insurance and Minijobs are not covered.

Full-time versus part-time: what happens to pay?

For example, reducing 40 weekly hours to 30 and starting from €4,000 full-time gross pay produces €3,000 part-time gross pay by the hours ratio. Net pay does not necessarily fall by the same percentage because deductions are recalculated at each salary level.

1. Set your hours

Check your contracted regular weekly hours. Use the same basis for full-time and part-time.

2. Review the net-pay difference

Compare the monthly net difference with the hours you gain. The estimate only applies to the tax and insurance details entered.

3. Check your contract and payslip

Confirm bonuses, allowances, scheduling and start date with your employer. For one salary estimate, use the Gross-to-Net Calculator.

What this part-time calculator does and does not include

The tool compares regular monthly gross and estimated net pay for 2026. It assumes the hours arrangement stays unchanged for the whole year. A mid-year change, irregular allowances, bonuses, private health insurance or a Minijob is not modelled as a complete payslip. Confirmed child allowance factors may be needed for parents; extra care discounts (PVA) are not fully verified. The local church-tax exception in Bad Wimpfen is not selectable here.

Special rules in collective agreements

Under TVöD, part-time table pay is generally proportional to agreed versus regular working hours, subject to agreement-specific exceptions. This tool does not contain TVöD pay tables, pay groups, steps or personal allowances; it is not a TVöD salary-table calculator.

Frequently asked questions about part-time pay

How do I calculate gross pay for 30 instead of 40 hours?

With the same hourly rate, 30 ÷ 40 is exactly 75% of full-time hours. €4,000 full-time gross per month becomes €3,000 part-time gross. The tool calculates net pay separately.

How much net pay do I lose by working part-time?

It depends on gross pay, tax class, federal state, health insurance and care insurance. The result compares the monthly net difference instead of assuming one fixed percentage.

Is the annual net figure my actual yearly income?

No. It is the monthly model multiplied by 12, assuming the selected hours apply for the full year. A mid-year change or bonuses may produce different results.

What if part-time pay falls into the Minijob range?

This tool stops that scenario rather than guessing contributions. For those cases, use the Minijob versus Part-Time Comparison.

Can I compare pay covered by a collective agreement?

You can enter your known regular monthly collective-agreement gross pay. This tool does not determine pay groups, seniority steps, allowances or special rules. Check your agreement separately.
